18 months old!

I have absolutely no idea what happened to the first 4 1/2 months of 2010. So I thought I would use this occasion to catch up on the blog and share some photos of what Miss Maya has been up to these past few months.

January started with a visit to the Academy of Sciences. They have a wonderful playroom for kids ages 0-5 and Maya just loves it there.

There's a ship with a galley, sleeping quarters and of course a working steering wheelGoggles for all of the budding scientists...

And of course a multitude of puzzles. Now part of Maya's bedtime routine is to turn the deadbolt on the front door!

February brought the latest adventure in the Guerra household. Guillermo helped open a restaurant in Oakland and is also the Wine Director. Following are photos from the Opening Party on Feb 21st:

Maya with Auntie Kathy and Uncle Tim.
Maya with Grandma Karen and her new giraffe friend.

You can read the first review of the restaurant, SR24 here:

Guillermo was very pleased with the comments about his wine list and other beverages he selected (and created).

March was a fairly quiet month but Maya was busy nonetheless.

Time was spent working on walking skills and of course stopping to smell the flowers...

Practicing our Rock Star poses (sunglasses courtesy of Grandma Maggie)...

And just hanging around....

April brings showers...
Easter Sunday....
Maya is not a fan of dresses. She'll wear them, but they definately cramp her style. A girly girl she is not!

And of course BASEBALL (what a long 6 months it has been!)

We did not make it to Opening Day this year, but Maya was all decked out for the first Orange Friday of the season (when the Giants play at home on Friday everyone wears orange).

The headband was a game give away from years ago. Maya loves it and puts it on herself.

She made it to her first game of the season on April 14. Her dad got her the Lou Seal cap.

We also celebrated the 1st birthday of Maya's cousin Stellina.

My friend Carrie in New York sent Maya this fabulous party dress. The boa just makes the outfit don't you think?

Some more pictures from our trips to the neighborhood park:

Walking with such purpose.

Just chillin' in the sun. The first time she tilted back in swing like that she scared me to death but she loves it. Must be another Orange Friday. Note the headband around her neck.

Another swing shot on a much colder day. The expression on her face is classic Maya.

And this brings us to the month of May.

We had an early Mother's Day celebration with Guillermo's Grandma.

This was Maya's first outfit selection for the day but the dress was just a little too short.
So we went with this one:

And we got a photo with Maya's Great Grandma Concha.

Red is the color of the day....

Maya has a thing for hats. She loves them when she doesn't have to wear them. She finds them and puts them on herself. Of course when I try to put one on her, it never stays.

How did you get in there?

I was in the other room and of course things got too quiet. When I went into Maya's room to see what she was doing, I found her here. She had figured out how to climb in by hanging onto the gate behind her. Climbing is definately one of her favorite things to do right now.

On Mother's Day we drove up to Arcata to spend sometime with Grandma Karen and Grandpa Tom.

Grandpa Tom and Maya dancing...

Maya leading the charge on our hike through Lady Bird Johnson Grove (just north of Orick).

Playing peek-a-boo with Guillermo amongst the Redwood Trees.
We have more photos from this trip that I will post after I get them off of Guillermo's phone.

Pumpkin and Bucket (with Shovel)

No, Maya is not practicing for Halloween (yet). The pumpkin and bucket (with shovel) are her three most prized possessions these days. They live in the garage, so everytime we go in there, she has to bring them out. She will carry them all the way to the park and then of course abandon them the moment we get there (until she see's another kid playing with them).

Maya and Stellina

Guillermo's cousin Estrella came to visit with her daughter Stellina who is 6 months younger than Maya. Here are the girls with Stellina's Grandpa Luis (Guillermo's uncle).

Maya's 2nd Christmas

Grandma and Grandpa Elfers felt well enough for a short visit the day after Christmas. Maya got her first piano!
Maya plucking away while the cat enjoys the music. She still plays it everyday.

Christmas Day 2009

On Christmas morning, we drove down to Santa Cruz to Uncle Tim and Aunt Kathy's house. My parents were too sick to make the trip and we missed them very much! Maya admired the Christmas tree from the time we arrived.
Maya's new favorite toy, her musical table plays the ABC song and counts to 10 in both English and Spanish.
Family photo, LtoR: Gwendoly, Maya, Guillermo, Tim, Kathy and Jake.
Maya got the hang of opening presents pretty quickly. (Yes she changed outfits!).

Christmas Eve 2009

We usually celebrate Christmas Eve with Guillermo's family. This year we had dinner at our place. Here's Maya all dressed up with Grandma Maggie.
Maya and her Uncle David.
Dinnertime! Maya enjoyed the yams and scallped potatoes the most.

All boxed up

Grandma Maggie helped Maya get into her canvas storage box. Maya took it from there...
